How did you meet?
Unbeknownst to us, our love story started with me dog sitting for Adam. As I approached the house for the preliminary visit, I was welcomed by two energetic toddlers in nothing else but their diapers. I saw Adam for the first time and was taken aback by his beautiful baby blues. So much so that I couldn't look him in the eyes for the remainder of the visit.
I was so turned on by his immaculate & well-organized home (given he had two young children). In my weird attempt to impress him, I kicked my OCD into high gear and proceeded to reorganize all of his cabinets & drawers while they were away. Although I may have scared him, we still remained friends.
Who made the first move?
Fast forward 5 months and a couple of bad relationships later...we were both single. After 3-4 attempts of Adam asking me out for drinks, I finally said yes. The banter was like an Olympic ping pong match, the conversation was as if I had known him all my life, and the chemistry was like watching the world's New Years Eve fireworks from space. I knew I bagged a good one.
Ok, so what about the first kiss? Well...keep reading because this story gets better!
Adam and I stepped outside of 5Church to continue our conversation when all of a sudden Adam says, " I am smelling the faintest smell of hotdogs." Immediately, I am mortified thinking, "Holy Shit he smells my spray tan!" Then a random drunk girl, off the street, points at us and screams "EEEW." Full of smelly insecurities, I yell back "EEEW to YOU...EEEW to your dress!" I mean the nerve of this girl! Then Adam and I look down at our shoes and realize we are both standing in a huge pile of vomit. Needless to say, this was not our 1st kiss moment, but we laughed hysterically.
We proceeded to the bar at Sophia's where we talked about our past life, future goals, and exchanged countless laughs. It was as if the present time stopped, and everyone froze around us when Adam leaned in for our first kiss. I felt instant butterflies and knew I was hooked. There was no doubt in my mind we would be partners for life and since that first date, 7 years ago, we've been just that.
What is your favorite memory with each other?
One of my favorite memories with Tiffany was actually the day after our first date, I took her to a Charlotte Hornets game. In the middle of the 2nd quarter, we notice something strange happening - they are rolling out a huge banner that goes over the top of the section we are sitting in. Not really thinking much about it, I joined in and passed it back to the people behind me. I look over at Tiffany and she's white as a ghost & petrified. To my surprise, Tiffany is claustrophobic. She immediately bends down, puts her head in between her legs and starts breathing heavily.
As I sip my cocktail, a few thoughts enter my head..."Should I provide comforting words, perhaps rub her back" or "Should I act like I don't know this girl, I mean it's only our 2nd date." But one thing's for certain, I definitely couldn't help her. So, I just continue sipping my drink. Then I notice with each wave of the banner was the sweet smell of none-other than the Devil's Lettuce! I follow the aroma to my right to find two friendly neighbors hysterically laughing at Tiffany. Best part about this crazy situation, they pass me their pen (and since we are completely camouflaged from security), I had a nice puff while Tiffany attempted to subdue her panic attack. I'll never forget that moment.
How did you get engaged?
So, Tiffany turned 40 in September of 2022. We planned a trip to Cabo with her best people for her birthday and that's when the engagement planning started. I didn't want to propose to her in Cabo and take away from her already planned celebration but thought about how I could add to it. We've always talked about visiting Napa, not just for our infatuation with red wine, but with the weather turning and it being such a beautiful place I thought about wine country as the perfect location. Therefore, I booked the trip where we would fly into San Fran, head to Napa for 3 days and then straight to Cabo for her 40th birthday.
I knew the hardest part was finding a ring that met Tiffany's personality, beauty and style, as we all know this girl's got it all. With a few conversations with her best friends and even some help from a few of my own - I found it! We finally made it into Napa with a couple of our favorite wineries on deck. I was a bit unsure of which winery I would actually pop the question, so I just played it by ear. Our first winery, Castello di Amorosa, was a beautiful castle, so naturally I thought, what girl doesn't want to get engaged in a castle? I'm thinking this is it, this is the place. As we venture the castle, I begin to notice most of the tour consisted of padded rooms and torture chambers. Nope, this is NOT the place to pop the question.
After a few more tastings, we head to lunch at Auberge du Soleil (I know, fancy right). We decided to step outside on the balcony that overlooks acres of pristine landscape, and I knew this was the perfect place. The sun was shining, the wine was flowing, my (soon to be) fiancé was tipsy...now is the time! I slid the box over to her (because I'm not a "get on one knee" type of guy) and proceeded to ask the love of my life to marry me. She threw off her fake Forever21 ring and said yes! We jumped in the limo, blasted the "Going to the Chapel" song and proceeded to our now favorite spot in Napa; Stag's Leap, to continue the celebration.
